Bus Excursion to the Waldfrieden Sculpture Park (Wuppertal)

On September 20, a joint bus tour led to the Waldfrieden Sculpture Park in Wuppertal – an inspiring day filled with art, nature, and encounters as part of the twin exhibition in Heidelberg and Darmstadt.
With around 30 participants, a joint day trip set out from Heidelberg and Darmstadt on Saturday, September 20, 2025, heading to Wuppertal – destination: the Waldfrieden Sculpture Park. The excursion was organized by the Spanish Tower Sculpture Garden and the Heidelberg Sculpture Park, which together are presenting two TONY CRAGG exhibitions in the Rhine-Main-Neckar region this year.
The Waldfrieden Sculpture Park was established on the grounds of the historic Villa Herberts (“Haus Waldfrieden”) and covers an area of about 15 hectares. After Tony Cragg acquired the estate in 2006 and had it extensively restored, the park opened to the public in 2008. The expansive site combines large-scale outdoor sculptures with three exhibition halls and a glass pavilion – all nestled within a varied, wooded hillside landscape that creates ever-changing atmospheres through light and season. In addition to works by Cragg, the permanent collection features sculptures by internationally renowned artists such as Joseph Beuys, Joan Miró, Thomas Schütte, and Henry Moore.
The excursion included two expert-led tours through the outdoor grounds and the current exhibition »Tony Cragg. Line of Thought«, on view in all three halls until January 1, 2026. Afterwards, visitors had the opportunity to explore the park individually or enjoy a break at Café Podest.
The harmony of art and nature, the wealth of inspiring impressions, and the lively atmosphere made this day a memorable highlight within the accompanying programme of the twin exhibition in Heidelberg and Darmstadt.
