Art meets space travel: ESOC visitor group in the Spanish Tower sculpture garden

Science meets art: On May 8, 2025, around 30 staff members and affiliates of ESOC visited the TONY CRAGGexhibition in the sculpture garden at the Spanish Tower – an inspiring encounter of contemporary sculpture, historic architecture, and international space exploration.
Darmstadt is not only known as a city of science and the arts, but has also established itself as an important location for European space travel. The European Space Agency (ESA) operates the European Space Operations Centre (ESOC) in Darmstadt, which plays a central role in the control and monitoring of satellite missions. This makes the city an important hub for international space activities.
As part of this year's TONY CRAGG exhibition in the sculpture garden at the Spanish Tower, around 30 ESOC employees and members of staff took the opportunity to experience art and architecture in a special atmosphere on Thursday, May 8, 2025. As part of a guided group tour, they were given a guided tour of the exhibition, which presents contemporary sculptures by the renowned British artist Tony Cragg in an exhibition on Rosenhöhe and Mathildenhöhe. Even before the tour began, the participants explored the historic Spanish Tower, whose striking architecture forms an exciting contrast to the modern works of art.
