THE SCULPTURE GARDEN

The Spanish Tower Sculpture Garden presents important, internationally recognized creative positions. The aim is to include the work of sculptors whose artistic biography is linked to the city of Darmstadt.
CLOSE TIES TO THE CITY OF DARMSTADT
The BS Kulturstiftung aims to provide the »New Artists’ Colony«, located on the Rosenhöhe, with an exhibition forum adjacent to their living and working environment. In addition, the foundation seeks to showcase works by those artists who have been awarded the Wilhelm Loth Prize by the City of Darmstadt for their outstanding artistic achievements.
Through these efforts, the foundation not only emphasizes its connection to the Rosenhöhe Park and its artistic tradition, but also underlines its commitment to the Wilhelm Loth Prize, which it has supported since its establishment in 2018.
Against this background, the retrospective held in honor of the Darmstadt sculptor Wilhelm Loth in September 2020 was the ideal starting point for exhibition activities in the sculpture garden. As a representative of both the »New Artists’ Colony« and a recipient of Darmstadt’s art prize, Wilhelm Loth exemplified the foundation’s conceptual goals in an exemplary way.
INTERPLAY BETWEEN ART AND NATURE
The appeal of the exhibition area lies primarily in the dialogue between the artworks and the surrounding vegetation—between the crafted sculptural forms and the organically evolved landscape. It is precisely this interplay between art and nature that makes a visit to the Sculpture Garden at the Spanish Tower a truly special experience.
A NEW CULTURAL LANDMARK
With the creation of the Sculpture Garden at the Spanish Tower, the BS Kulturstiftung has actively contributed to the design of public space and established an artistic landmark unlike any other in the region. For the City of Darmstadt, this new site is a cultural enrichment that stands out as a highlight and unique feature well beyond the city’s borders.
