Bus Excursion to the Waldfrieden Sculpture Park (Wuppertal)

Since 2008, the Cragg Foundation—founded in 2005 by British-German sculptor Tony Cragg—has operated the Waldfrieden Sculpture Park in Wuppertal. In connection with the TONY CRAGG exhibitions in Darmstadt and Heidelberg, we will visit one of the most impressive sculpture parks in Germany together.
The establishment and development of the Waldfrieden Sculpture Park, which opened in 2008, go back to the British sculptor Tony Cragg, who lives in Wuppertal. Thirty years after beginning his exhibition work, he was in search of a permanent outdoor exhibition space for sculpture when he discovered the abandoned Waldfrieden estate, which was acquired by the Cragg Foundation in 2006. That same year, the transformation of the park grounds and buildings began. After standing vacant for many years, they required extensive renovation and modernization. In appreciation of the site's historical character, the existing structures and materials were preserved as much as possible. Despite the adaptation of the park and buildings for their new purpose, their historical dimension has been retained.
The Waldfrieden Sculpture Park is home to a steadily growing collection of sculptures, including selections from Tony Cragg’s extensive body of work. Complementing this, changing exhibitions feature works by internationally renowned artists. The program is accompanied by lectures on cultural topics and musical performances.
On 20 September 2025, the Sculpture Garden Spanish Tower and the Heidelberg Sculpture Park will offer a joint trip to the Waldfrieden Sculpture Park in Wuppertal.
